White received no scholarship offers from four-year institutions after graduating from high school. He was barely 6 feet tall at the time of his high school graduation, which occurred about two months before his 18th birthday, after growing two inches during his senior year.
By the time he enrolled at Colorado-Colorado Springs, White had already realised his full potential. In 2017, White was one of 60 NBA prospects invited to the NBA Draft Combine. He was one of only 15 combine invitees who were not among Rivals’ top-150 high school prospects, and one of only three who did not sign with a Division I programme after graduating.
On October 18, 2017, White made his NBA debut, coming off the bench in a 107-99 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. He and Davis Bertans were assigned to the NBA G League’s Austin Spurs on October 31, 2017.

On February 10, 2022, White was traded to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Josh Richardson, Romeo Langford, a 2022 first-round pick, and the right to swap 2028 first-round picks. White made his Celtics debut the next day, finishing with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.
