2022 Bahrain GP: Haas driver Kevin Magnussen drove a stellar race to finish 5th at the Bahrain international circuit on Sunday.
Kevin Magnussen is still riding the highs of his dream return to Formula 1 with Haas. The Dane finished P5 on Sunday at the Bahrain GP after an impressive P7 start.
With his P5 finish, Magnussen recorded the team’s first points in 28 races. It was also Haas’ best team result since they finished fourth and fifth in the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix in which Romain Grosjean was ahead of Magnussen.
Magnussen bought 10 points for Haas on Sunday, and the team were clearly delighted with his performance.
Haas thrilled with Magnussen’s P5 finish
After the race ended, Haas took to Twitter to post an image of Magnussen, with the caption ‘The comeback kid is in town.’ Magnussen had left Haas in 2020 after a three-year stint with the team.
However, after Russian driver Nikita Mazepin’s departure this year, Haas immediately recalled Magnussen to replace him. And it seems like bringing the veteran driver back to the fold was the right call. “It was crazy, the craziness continues,” said Magnussen following his stellar driving at the Bahrain GP, which had three-pit stops during the race.
While Magnussen was helped with the two Red Bulls’ DNF ahead of him during the race, he showed great composure and calmness to stay close to the top half of the pack. The Dane also heaped praise on his new car and thanked the team for giving him the opportunity to race in F1 again.
Haas also deserved credit for its risk management. The team sacrificed its development in 2021 in a bid to focus on the regulation changes for this year. They currently have more points than six other F1 teams.
