Alfa Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu accumulated six points in the 2022 season as a rookie
Guanyu Zhou made his full-time debut in F1, this season with Alfa Romeo. The Chinese driver had a commendable start, nothing up 1 point in his debut race but eventually ended up in the 18th spot in the drivers’ leaderboard with six points. It is a decent score for a rookie season, and he certainly impressed fans across the globe.
Zhou himself seems to be pretty content with his efforts this season and gave himself a rating of 7 out of 10. When asked what he feels about his results in 2022, Zhou said: “I definitely wanted to achieve a bit more on paper. It’s no lie to say that [with] a few DNF occasions we lost around eight to 10 points, which hurt a bit.” He further added: “We achieved all the objectives we set at the beginning of the season. Q2, Q3, points. I’ll be making sure it’s a bit more consistent next year, and we should be good.”
Fans share their take on Zhou Guanyu’s debut season
Let us take a look at what fans on Twitter feel about Zhou’s debut season in F1.
“7 or 8 out of 10, he’s kept it clean and delivered, bar some reliability issues and gymnastics, but quite good consistency and pace”, wrote a fan.
“I just want more radios from him and his team”, joked another fan.
“Very good tbh. Minimal mistakes, clean racing, showed good pace. It was unfortunate that the car was at its best while he was still acclimatising to it, but he surpassed my expectations and I’m looking forward to seeing in him do more next year. 7/10 for a rookie”, read a tweet.
“Kinda weird… people praise him a lot even though he got fewer points than Mick in a faster car. Sure he didn’t crash as much but still thought Mick was more impressive”, tweeted another fan.
A critical fan wrote: “3 or 4. Overrated immensely. He had a bad season. Missed a lot of opportunities. Relatively decent second part of the season makes it up slightly. Definitely not enough talent for a top seat but might be a ok low-midfielder.”
