Jalen Ramsey was born in Tennessee and he comes from a family of athletes. His brother, Jamal, participated in football, basketball, and track at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin.
Ramsey grew into a confident football player, playing against boys much older than him. He was a five-star recruit to come out of Ensworth High School and had a highly successful track career as well. He originally committed to the University of South Carolina but later switched to Florida State.
Being a two-sport athlete in college is not easy but Jalen somehow managed to do both. He was named a Consensus All-American for his performance in the 2015 season and also recorded his personal best jump of 26′ 1.75″ at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the same year.
The Jaguars leapt at the opportunity to draft him in 2016, making him the highest-drafted cornerback in the franchise’s history. He finished his rookie campaign in 65 combined tackles (55 solos), 14 pass deflections, two interceptions, and a touchdown in 16 games and 16 starts.
