British veteran Andy Murray faces Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic in the round of 128 of the 2023 Miami Open on Wednesday.
Andy Murray
The legendary player played some fine tennis in the Qatar Open in February. He reached the finals of the tournament with wins against Lorenzo Sonego, Alexander Zverev, Alexandre Muller, and Jiri Lehecka. In the finals, Murray lost to Daniil Medvedev in straight sets.
Apart from his Qatar Open campaign, Murray has not had any real performance of note. In his recent outing in the Indian Wells, Murray defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Radu Albot before going down to compatriot Jack Draper in the round of 32. Last year in Miami, Murray was ousted in the round of 64 by top seed Daniil Medvedev.
Dusan Lajovic
The 32-year-old has played in 7 tournaments this season and he has managed to reach the quarterfinals thrice. His quarterfinal appearances came consecutively in the Argentina Open, the Rio Open, and the Chile Open.
Lajovic did not have a memorable campaign in Indian Wells as he retired during the first round of qualifying while trailing 2-6, 1-4 against Tennys Sandgren. Last year in the Miami Open, Lajovic was defeated by Juan Manuel Cerundolo in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. The Serbian star will hope to have a longer run in this year’s edition of the tournament.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
This will be the first encounter between Andy Murray and Dusan Lajovic and therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Andy Murray to win in straight sets.
