He trademarked his “Night Night” celebration — head cocked atop a prayer-hands pillow after dispatching his opponents with a clutch bucket — which became a contender for 2022’s top meme. He’s on the verge of signing a multi-billion-dollar contract with Under Armour.

The Billion Dollar Deal

Stephen Curry, the reigning NBA champion and Finals MVP, is reportedly close to signing a lifetime endorsement deal with Under Armour.

Curry has “nearly locked a lifetime contract with Under Armour worth potentially more than $1 billion,” according to Rolling Stone, but neither party has announced the alleged deal.

Curry signed with Nike when he first entered the league in 2009, but left in 2013—in part due to a botched presentation by the Swoosh to convince Curry to stay with the brand. Curry signed an endorsement deal with Under Armour shortly after his Nike contract expired. Curry’s contract with Under Armour was called into question in 2018 after he felt the company lacked commitment to his shoes at the time. Curry then met with Under Armour’s former CEO, Kevin Plank, who agreed to establish Curry Brand, an Under Armour subsidiary brand that will launch in 2020. Curry’s current contract with Under Armour will expire in 2024.

The ‘Curry’ Brand

Curry’s Curry Brand has since released the Curry Flow 8 and Curry Flow 9 signature basketball shoes, with a third silhouette bearing his name on the way. Aside from product, Under Armour has confirmed that a portion of Curry Brand’s annual earnings will be reinvested in underserved communities. By 2025, the Curry Brand is expected to have created at least 20 safe places for children to play, supported 125 programmes aimed at uplifting young athletes, and provided opportunities to train more than 15,000 coaches who will positively impact over 100,000 children in their communities.
