Marin Cilic defeated world no.2 Daniil Medvedev 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 to register his 30th win at the Roland Garros
Marin Cilic has joined an elite list of players comprising Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray – the only active players to win at least 30 matches in all four Grand Slams. The 33-year-old reached his third Roland Garros quarter-final and his first Grand Slam quarter-final since he reached that stage in three of the four majors in 2018, including the Australian Open final. Cilic caused a major upset at court Philippe-Chatrier by defeating world no.2, Daniil Medvedev.
Marin Cilic now has 30 wins at the Roland Garros to go with the 35 at the Australian Open, 38 at the US Open, and 31 at Wimbledon.
Speaking after his match against Medvedev, an elated Cilic said – “It was an absolutely fantastic match from the first point to the last. I enjoyed the atmosphere, enjoyed the night session here. I played incredible tennis — one of the best matches of my career from start to finish.”
Cilic has been in sublime form in Paris. The Croatian has dropped just one set in reaching the quarter-finals and has held serve in 50 of 54 service games, saving eight of 12 breakpoints. With this win, Cilic improved his record to 1-10 against Top 10 opponents at Roland Garros and 4-21 against the Top 10 on clay.

“Cilic is under rated His Grand Slam plus 2 other slam finals plus masters 1000 came slap bang in the middle of peak big 4 era. That weights a heck of a lot”, wrote a fan who clearly rates Cilic highly.
“Current ATP players to have made all four grand slam finals: Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray. Cilic could join that list if he makes the French Open final”, tweeted a fan, quite correctly pointing out that Cilic could very well achieve another incredible feat by the end of this Grand Slam.
