Diego Sanchez faces Jake Matthews in his next fight but still wants to face Conor McGregor
UFC legend Diego Sanchez might be fighting for the last time as he faces Jake Matthews at UFC 253.
The 38-year-old is one of the originals in the UFC after appearing on the first Ultimate Fighter. He has fought some of the biggest stars in the UFC and is confident of doing well against the rising Matthews.
Sanchez was speaking to Helen Yee and was asked about any fighter that he wanted to face.
The 38-year-old shot back that it was Conor McGregor and he even explained why he wanted to face the Notorious One:
“Without a doubt, the one name on that list is Conor McGregor at Welterweight. That’s been a dream fight for me since he came into the UFC with his chit chat.
“He came with his mouth and was speaking bad on Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar, the whole 45 pound division.
“I am like, ‘Dude, you are disrespecting these legends. Me and him went back and forth on Twitter, way before there was IG.
“It is what it is. I would love to fight that guy. I don’t want the fight for the money, I believe me and him, both have something special inside of us and it would be a real warrior fight.”
No issues with the Diaz brothers
Yee then asked about him possibly fighting Nate Diaz. However, Sanchez claimed that he wanted to face McGregor over Diaz.
Sanchez does have a win over the other Diaz, Nick. However, he claimed that the Diaz brothers were “real” and there was no faking from them in the UFC.
Sanchez added that he liked Nate more than McGregor and would fight someone he didn’t like than someone who he did.
It is unlikely that this clash will ever take place given that McGregor retired from fighting a couple of months back.
Sanchez is still going on, and it will be interesting to see how he does against Matthews.
