Why West Brom should make a move for QPR’s Bright Osayi-Samuel

According to the Sun (h/t The Birmingham Mail), West Brom are interested in signing Queens Park Rangers attacker Bright Osayi-Samuel.

Bright Osayi-Samuel, 22, has been a real highlight for Queens Park Rangers this season, having joined the London-based club from Blackpool three years ago. However, it is only now that the young winger is enjoying a breakthrough campaign for Mark Warburton’s side that has seen him contribute 8 goals and 6 assists in 29 Championship appearances.

QPR have recently triggered the option in Osayi-Samuel’s contract, which keeps him at the club until 2021, the report adds.

Meanwhile, West Brom are on course to win automatic promotion to the Premier League. The Baggies have not been at their best in the last few weeks that has seen Leeds United capitalise and reach top spot in the table. Yet, they remain six points clear of third-placed Fulham.

If West Brom are to be promoted this season, then the players that are brought into the side have to be up to the required standard straight away in order to help them maintain that status. Slaven Bilic should bring in some changes to the squad before the start of the new campaign regardless of their league status.

Even though the Midlands outfit are joint-top scorers in the division, Bilic should beef up his attack. Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson are on loan at the Hawthorns from West Ham and Sheffield United respectively. The duo will depart to their respective clubs at the end of the season. Thus, the Baggies will need a winger this summer and they should go for Bright Osayi-Samuel.

Osayi-Samuel arrived at QPR three years ago but he has been a revelation this season in England’s second-tier. He has impressed down the right flank for QPR, producing eight assists and six goals so far.

The 22-year-old has performed very well at QPR but he will have a better chance to develop his game at West Brom under Bilic, who has shown his willingness to nurture young talents, as evident from the opportunities given to Grady Diangana, Matheus Pereira, Rekeem Harper, Nathan Ferguson, Kyle Edwards and Dara O’Shea.

January addition Kamil Grosicki is getting on now, but he is 31 years old. So, Osayi-Samuel could well be a long-term replacement for the Pole and this could be a very wise move by Bilic if the youngster develops well. He really looks exciting.

Verdict

At the age of 22, Osayi-Samuel is not a complete player and has so much more room for improvement. All in all, the right-winger could prove to be a valuable long-term investment for West Brom if he fulfills his potential and goes beyond.
